Overview
BoB is most valuable when staff and students know it exists—and understand how it can support their teaching, learning and research.
Whether you’re a Member Representative, part of a library or comms team, or teaching staff, there are simple ways to raise awareness and encourage use across your institution.
Start here: Student Engagement Toolkit
If you’re looking for a quick and effective way to promote BoB, we recommend starting with our Student Engagement Toolkit.
This toolkit includes:
- Ready-to-use promotional materials
- Messaging and campaign ideas
- Practical examples of how to introduce BoB to students and staff
You can also watch the Student Engagement Toolkit webinar recording that walks you through:
- How to use the toolkit
- How to run your own internal promotion
- Real examples of what works
Quick ideas to get started
- Share BoB in welcome emails or inductions
- Add links to your VLE or library pages
- Promote it through newsletters or internal comms
- Highlight it in teaching and course materials
Promoting BoB to students
Students engage best when BoB is introduced in context.
You could:
- Include BoB in induction sessions or library skills workshops
- Add links to relevant programmes in your VLE modules
- Share playlists or clips linked to course content
- Highlight how BoB can support assignments and revision
Supporting teaching staff
Encouraging staff to use BoB in their teaching can significantly increase engagement.
You could:
- Share examples of how BoB can be used in lectures or seminars
- Highlight features like:
- Creating clips
- Building playlists
- Embedding content in VLEs
- Show how audiovisual content supports inclusive and engaging teaching
Build confidence through training
If you’re supporting staff adoption, our courses can help build confidence in using audiovisual content in teaching.
In particular, our Teach Beyond Text course offers practical, research-led approaches to integrating film and TV into teaching and creating more inclusive learning experiences.
Using additional resources
Alongside the toolkit, we offer a range of supporting materials:
- BoB user guide – step-by-step platform guidance
- Subject resource guides – curated playlists and teaching ideas
- Webinars and recordings – practical guidance and updates
These can be shared directly with staff and students or embedded in your internal systems.
Promoting through communications
Working with your comms or marketing team can help reach a wider audience.
Consider:
- Featuring BoB in internal newsletters
- Posting on intranet or staff portals
- Sharing updates at key times (e.g., start of term, exam periods)
Keep the momentum going
Promotion works best when it’s ongoing rather than one-off.
You might:
- Share reminders throughout the academic year
- Highlight relevant content
- Encourage staff to share how they’re using BoB
