Overview
Learning on Screen offers a range of flexible, self-paced online courses designed to help educators make more effective use of film, television and audio in teaching.
Our courses are grounded in Learning on Screen’s own research and campaigns, particularly our Teach Beyond Text study, which explores how audiovisual media can transform learning experiences and outcomes.
Teach Beyond Text: research-led teaching in practice
Our Teach Beyond Text courses are directly based on Learning on Screen’s national research campaign.
This research draws on the experiences of over 1,100 students across schools, colleges and universities to understand how learners engage with film, television and audiovisual resources in education.
Key findings include:
- Students see audiovisual content as a core part of effective learning, not an optional extra
- Film and TV help students understand complex ideas more easily and engage more deeply with their subjects
- Film and TV support different ways of processing information, making learning more inclusive and accessible
At the same time, access to these resources remains inconsistent across education.
